For the March
instalment of the monthly Music Revival concerts, pianist Christopher Duigan
turns his hand to a lighthearted selection of charming popular classics in Tales from Grandmother's Piano Album.
With an emphasis on
elegance, charm and grace, this selection of music evokes a bygone world of
nostalgic classics, often associated with salon music and evenings at the
family piano.
The programme
includes: Beethoven’s Minuet in G,
Brahms’s Waltz in A-flat, Dvorak's Humoresque, Rubenstein's Melody in F and The Maiden's Prayer, as well as the popular evergreens Parade of the Tin Soldier, Rustle of Spring and The Teddy Bear's Picnic.
Duigan will perform
piano music from the classical and popular repertoire at St Agnes’ Church,
Kloof, on March 23 at 19h30 and at the Tatham Art Gallery in Chief Albert
Luthuli Street in Pietermaritzburg on March 26 at 11h00.
