(Philippe
Graffin)
The KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra
returns to the Playhouse Opera for its four-week Winter Symphony Season of
sublime world class music until June 22, 2017.
KZNPO associate guest conductor Daniel
Boico takes to the podium for the second concert of the season on June 8 which
features French violinist and recording artist, Philippe Graffin, in a concert
supported by Alliance Française de Durban.
Graffin is currently professor at the Paris
Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique and guest professor at the Brussels
Conservatoire Royal. He has established a particular reputation for his
interest in rare and contemporary works and has rediscovered original settings
of classics and in so doing has championed forgotten violin concertos. Graffin
performs Spanish violinist Edouard Lalo’s Symphonie
Espagnole – homage to the French intelligentsia's appreciation of all things
Spanish during the latter part of the19th century. Also on the programme is a
rare performance of Alexander Glazunov’s imposing Overture solennelle and Shostakovitch Symphony No 10 in E minor, Op
93.
The KZN Philharmonic continues its primary
mission of bringing excellence in music making to the province of KZN. The
Winter Season features top South African and international musicians in an
eclectic programme of amazing music. “We are committed to bringing the highest
quality concerts to Durban thereby enriching the city and province through music,”
says Bongani Tembe, CEO and Artistic Director of the KZN Philharmonic.
Refreshments and light snacks may be
purchased in the foyer before the concert and during interval. Single tickets
are available from www.computicket.com,
0861 915 8000, or from Shoprite Checkers Money Market counters. It is cheaper
to subscribe. Subscribers can save up to 20%. For subscriptions contact 031 369
