The Rivertown Night
Market, opposite the ICC, is a brand new venture from Wholefood, a Durban based
events and catering company, in partnership with Propertuity, which will take
place on the last Friday evening of every month at the Rivertown Precinct..
The concept started
last month. It will have its second market on July 28 from 17h30 until 22h00.
The event will be family oriented and focus on local producers and
entrepreneurs, the aim being to bring people together, and into the city, for a
night of live entertainment, good food and great atmosphere.
Darryl Hofmann from
Wholefood is a entrepreneurial innovator and veteran market organiser having
facilitated similar lifestyle markets on the Point, in Musgrave,
Pietermaritzburg and Glenwood’s Bulwer Park over the years. He says that the
idea is to experience this part of the city in a new light and create a family
and community atmosphere: ‘We want to show that it can be a safe, fun place to
socialize,’ he explains.
Rivertown Precinct
is a cultural hotspot and an area of concentrated urban regeneration
spearheaded by, among others, property developers Propertuity in an effort to
bring foot traffic back to central Durban. This will serve as the setting for
what proves to be a dynamic and exciting new culinary, entertainment and
lifestyle activation of the area.
Aside from a
carefully-chosen variety of refreshments and light meals from carefully-selected
service providers brought together for the event, the evening will feature an
eclectic line up of live music including sets by Madala Kunene, King of the
Zulu guitar and soulful and talented solo artist Matt Gardiner. There will also
be child-minding services and activities and entertainment for the little ones.
The focus will be
on fresh and fabulous food and funky fare. Included in the stallholders mix are
artisan breads; marinated feta cheese; home- made ice cream; fresh fruit and
veg as well as tasty meal options, sundowners, great coffee and craft beer.
There will be gift ideas, accessories and decor inspirations – with the focus
on nostalgia and innovation such as handcrafted items; locally-made good and
bespoke handcrafted locally-made goods.
The Rivertown Night
Market will take place at 130 Stalwart Simelane Street, opposite the ICC. Off
street parking will be available adjacent to the venue, with ample additional
street parking. Designated security guards and car guards will be on duty for
the duration of the event to ensure the safety of guests.
