(Dave Monks & Marion Loudon)
After a
successful run two years ago, Rhumbelow Theatre brings The Swinging Sixties
with Dave Monks & Marion Loudon show back to Pietermaritzburg
The Swinging Sixties is no doubt let the good times
roll again. Monks & Loudon transport audiences back in time to the “Era of
Real Music”. They entertain superbly in this very well put-together collection
of nostalgic and popular 60s hits. The show features covers of more than 20
different artists which include The Beatles, Sony & Cher, The Carpenters,
The Crystals, Nancy Sinatra, The Monkees, Cliff Richard, Credence Clearwater
Revival and The Bee Gees just to name a few.
Loudon’s
vocal range and versatility never ceases to shine and particularly in songs
like My Boy Lollipop, These Boots Are
Made for Walking, Da Do Ron Ron and The Carpenters worldwide smash hit Jambalaya, which incidentally was
written in the 60s and was only became a hit in 1973.
Monks
features with some great lead guitar work as he glides through some of The
Shadows greatest hits, Atlantis and
the ever green Apache which
incidentally has been recently voted as No 1 greatest guitar instrumental of
all time.
Monks’
and Loudon’s voices blend extremely well together - and so they should, as they
have performed together all over South Africa including Sun City, Swaziland,
Johannesburg and too many corporate events and festivals to mention. They have
also been the voices behind many radio adverts.
Loudon has
been the harmonising vocalist on all of Dave Monks solo CDs.
The show
consists of a wide variety of those great 60s songs plus some very well
thought-out medleys which flow along with great ambiance and will surely have the
audience clapping and toes tapping.
The
Beatles Medley and Rock & Roll Medleys will have them reminiscing,
particularly those who were around during the explosive musical times of the
60’s. The use of harmonica on some of The Beatles songs is very effective and much
in tune with the whole 60’s vibe.
The Swinging Sixties is presented by Rhumbelow
Theatre and has performances on July 9 at 14h00 and 18h30 at The Allan Wilson
Shellhole is situated at 5 Durban Road in Pietermaritzburg. The venue opens 90
