Under the helm of critically acclaimed
choreographer, David Gouldie, The Playhouse Company presents a brand new dance
work, Handbag - Don’t clutch me too
tightly. Featuring the real-life tales of our ladies from TAFTA, this
visual work explores the stories and the everyday woman.
The work is based around interviews and
moments of the elderly ladies who live in TAFTA … Moments of joy, loss and remembrance will be
explored and celebrated with the dancers using these stories and emotions for
the basis of this dance work.
A first kiss, marriage, loss, forgiveness…
The work will follow the linear narratives
of these intimate stories to ultimately speak to overall global issues.
The work is strongly focused towards our
youth and will challenge their perceptions of the aged – who are an often
overlooked and forgotten part of society.
The dance work will pay tribute to these
incredible women and their stories and provides a creative space for young
minds to be enlightened around issues affecting the elderly and their life
experience; respecting one’s elders and valuing the contribution of the
individual to our collective histories and existence today.
