The Elizabeth Gordon Gallery is to host an
exhibition by Hugh
Mbayiwa titled Time and Again.
“Hugh
Mbayiwa our Zimbabwean artist first came in to Elizabeth Gordon Gallery in 2002
when we had just moved the Gallery to 120 Florida Road. I invited him to join
our Here We Are Now exhibition which
we held to publicise our move,” says gallery owner, Joy Reynolds.
“His two
paintings were the first to sell, and since then his popularity as an artist
has soared, both with locals and with visitors who love his colourful, naïve
depiction of rural African life.
“We then
held a solo exhibition for Hugh in 2003 which proved a great success and launched
him as one of our best-selling artists. His range of subject matter has found
favour in homes and offices here in Durban, and we confidently introduced him
to galleries in Johannesburg and Cape Town, where he has also had great
success,” Reynolds adds.
Time And Again runs from September 7 at 18h00 to September 16.
