The PPC
Imaginarium Awards, will be showcasing its finalists’ works at the KZNSA
Gallery from September 26 to October 15, 2017, in the Main Gallery. From a pair
of concrete sunglasses to a dress made of cement, the exhibition will feature a
diverse range of innovative and thought-provoking concrete pieces across the
disciplines of Sculpture, Jewellery, Fashion, Industrial Design and Film.
The
exhibition will also provide visitors with the opportunity to view and engage
with the works by the competition’s Overall Winner, Mziwoxolo Makalima, category
winners and runners-up.
A
project of the innovation department of PPC Ltd, the PPC Imaginarium Awards is
an art and design competition in which emerging artists and designers are
challenged to demonstrate their creative talent by incorporating Portland
cement-based concrete into their respective disciplines. A winner of several
BASA Awards, the competition has firmly established itself as the country’s
leading career-launching platform for up-and-coming artists.
The
KZNSA Gallery is part of PPC Imaginarium’s nationwide travelling exhibition
that sees its finalists’ works displayed at a number of auspicious galleries
and events throughout the year. Making its way from Johannesburg to Cape Town,
this travelling showcase is what makes the awards the most supportive of its
kind in South Africa – that and its cash prizes to the value of R500,000,
mentorships with influential leaders in the art and design industry and more.
The
exhibition runs from September 26 to October 15, 2017, at the KZNSA Gallery which
is situated at 166 Bulwer Road, Glenwood, in Durban. More information on 031
