The next gathering of the North Coast Artists
will take place on October 14. It will take the form of a demonstration by Renee
Leslie on The Process of Mixed Media.
In 2005, Leslie left teaching to start exploring art
seriously but had been drawing under Jeanette Gilks' tuition as a Garret
Artist since 1993. She has not been formally trained but has always been
interested in art for as long as she can remember. Her style is intuitive, loose
and immediate. She favours using mixed media, collage and drawing with various
tools on prepared backgrounds. Oil painting is a more recent exploration.
“I tend to work loosely and intuitively,
believing very firmly in expressive mark making and an imaginative
interpretation,” she explains.
Leslie has been on many group exhibitions
over the years in Johannesburg, at the Tatham
Gallery, Pietermaritzburg, and in Durban. Her first solo exhibition was
in March this year at the Elizabeth Gordon Gallery, Durban. At a Members
Exhibition at the KZNSA Gallery; she came second and was selected for the
catalogued KZN Biennale 2010 Touring Exhibition.
The gathering will take place at 08h45 for
09h00 to 11h30 at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament Hall, 2 Newport Avenue in
Virginia, Durban (entrance just after Danville High School).
