AUDITIONS FOR GIBSON KENTE’S MUSICAL “HOW LONG”?
The Playhouse Company is holding auditions for celebrated
playwright, Gibson Kente’s How Long?
on December 14, 2017. Callbacks will be on December 15.
Training and vast experience in musical theatre will be a
great advantage. Casting will expressly focus on experienced actors who can
sing and dance.
AFRICA TWALA (singing, dancing, acting role): Young
energetic teenager between the ages of 18 and 20. He is the Soweto student
type, loud, fast, hyper and full of fun. He is humorous and has a tendency to
brush away problems. An eternal optimist who is spunky and always on the move.
MAGWAZA (singing acting role): A foreman between the ages of
35 and 45. He is a leader of the men working as garbage collectors. He is also
a mashonisa. Loud, bodacious and boisterous.
ENSEMBLE
Strong singers who can also dance. Strong dancers who can
also sing. Between the ages of 20 and 28.
All auditionees are expected to:
Prepare two three-minute monologues for the audition: one
that is similar to the character for which he is auditioning and one that
contrasts with the character being auditioned.
Prepare one of the following songs:
Females: Paradise Road (Joy); Noma
Kanjani (Brenda Fassie); Amazulu
(Amanda Black); Nizalwa Ngobani
(Thandiswa Mazwai)
Males: Sondela (Ringo Madlingozi), Nomvula
(Nathi), Tigi (Sands) and Memeza (Vusi Nova)
All auditionees are required to learn and memorize audition
songs. No-one will be auditioned if they do not know at least one of the
prescribed songs.
Each auditionee needs to bring a CV with them to the
