The performance by the 5th Season Band at
The Jazzy Rainbow on March 23, 2018, is part of the Concerts SA Venue Circuit
which aims to foster a love and support for live music in South African
communities, as well as anchor small and medium sized venues in urban and rural
Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape.
5th Season was established organically when
the band members met at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Department of Music
where they became known as The 5th Season. The collective operates often as a
trio and in some instances, a quartet and quintet, depending on the size of the
performance. The band is Janice Joseph (vocals), Brayden Hore (bass), Devon
Hore (drums) and Mthunzi Mchunu (guitar).
The band plays a wide range of well-known
jazz standards, contemporary melodies, as well as proudly South African Jazz
favourites. Whilst adding in their own flavour and interpretation they still
maintain the South African sound which is a testimony of their heritage. They completed their debut Album Symmetry and launched it in 2015.
