POP-UP EXHIBITION

In an exciting collaboration, two top platforms for emerging creatives, The PPC Imaginarium and KwaZulu-Natal Society of the Arts (KZNSA) Gallery, will host a pop-up exhibition of this year’s Durban-based finalists for the PPC Imaginarium Awards on March 5, 2018. Held at the KZNSA Gallery in Durban, the event features this year’s entries for fashion, sculpture, jewellery and industrial design in the PPC Imaginarium Awards.

For creatives in all sectors, it is a chance to expand their professional networks, meet industry specialists and mingle with entrants of the 2018 PPC Imaginarium Awards. Featuring presentations by the 2018 PPC Imaginarium Awards judges, Director Daniel van der Merwe and Curator Stephen Hobbs, the exhibition promises an inside view of the workings of the 2018 PPC Imaginarium Awards, which are open to citizens of South Africa and Zimbabwe. Attendees can enjoy a light snack and drinks as they peruse regional entries of this prestigious competition.

First launched by the innovation department of the renowned cement company, PPC Ltd, the PPC Imaginarium is an art-and-design competition that challenges emerging artists and designers to demonstrate their knack for innovation by incorporating concrete into their respective disciplines.

Now in its fourth year, the PPC Imaginarium has established itself firmly as South Africa’s top career-launching platform for up-and-coming artists and designers. With a cash prize totalling R500,000, entrants of the 2018 PPC Imaginarium Awards have a strong incentive to win or be a runner-up in their categories. With that said, entrants will receive wide exposure and be mentored throughout the process. Finalists have the auspicious honour of exhibiting at several major events and galleries – including the Turbine Art Fair and 100% Design South Africa – in the annual travelling exhibition of the PPC Imaginarium Awards.

To expand both their appeal and representation, the PPC Imaginarium Awards have judging stations across South Africa, including in Durban, Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town. “We want to continue to build, support and grow the creative industries and those who are part of it!” says Director Daniel van der Merwe.

The PPC Imaginarium will host three pop-up exhibitions of Awards finalists in March 2018. Hosted by the KZNSA Gallery, the first pop-up show gives Durban finalists the chance to live up to the skill, talent and creativity that the PPC Imaginarium has come to command in its entries.

The exhibition starts at 17h30 for 18h00 on March 5, 2018, and is open to members of the public. For more information on the PPC Imaginarium Awards, visit www.ppcimaginarium.co.za.

The KZNSA Gallery is situated at 166 Bulwer Road, Glenwood, Durban, 4001.
