Friends of Music will present An Die Musik, a duo recital from UCT
Opera School, on April 26, 2018.
The recital showcases performers Luvuyo
Mbundu (baritone) and Lisa Engelbrecht (piano) and features a selection of
well-loved artsongs, opera arias and piano transcriptions. The programme includes
music from Mendelssohn, Schubert, Schumann, Strauss, Mozart, Bellini, Gounod,
Verdi, Liszt and Gershwin and others.
Luvuyo Mbundu (25) grew up in Khayelitsha,
He started singing at school and then as an ad-hoc singer for Cape Town Opera
before enrolling at UCT Opera School where he is currently a final year
student. He is a multi-award winner including 1st Prize/ audience winner of the
Schock singing competition in 2017. Mbundu has appeared in many opera
productions at UCT. In 2017, he participated in Les Azuriales International
Opera Program in Nice, France.
Lisa Engelbrecht, principal vocal coach at
the Opera School of the SA College of Music at the University of Cape Town,
obtained her B Mus degree in piano performance and singing from UCT in 1990. She
studied further at the Conservatorio, Milan, where she obtained the Diploma di
Perfezzionamento. From 1998–2001, Engelbrecht held positions as operatic vocal
coach/repetiteur/accompanist at the British Youth Opera, London, Opera National
du Rhin in Strasbourg, the Renata Scotto Academy in Italy, the Merola Opera
Program in San Francisco and at Glimmerglass
Opera in New York. She obtained her Master of Music degree in 2002 at the
University of Illinois and returned to South Africa as vocal coach /repetiteur
at CTO until 2008 also completing her Doctor of Music degree in that year.
The concert takes place on April 26 at 19h30
at the Durban Jewish Centre, 44 KE Masinga (Old Fort) Road. Tickets R120 (R100 FOM
