Artist Call Out
The African Art Centre is calling out visual artists for the Footsteps of the Father Exhibition which
will take place at the African Art Centre from June 7 to July 1, 2018, at
Station Drive.
Selected to coincide with Youth Month, this theme is about the roles
that fathers play in society. This can be interpreted in many ways such as
economics, family politics, social condition and the past and present. What
norms does society or the mass media (radio, television, literature etc.) give
us that tell us the characteristics of a great or negligent father? Does a
father have to be a male figure? What is your definition of a father, based on
your experiences? A father, like a mother, yields power and influence to affect
the lives of their children negatively or positively.
Do you have a story to tell of your experiences of a father or a
father-like figure? If so, enter the exhibition by sending your artwork for
selection to the African Art Centre by May 28, 2018.
All works of any medium must be two-dimensional and able to be hung on a
wall. Maximum size is A1 (594 × 841 mm). Only artworks that meet the
requirements in terms of theme and artistry will be selected for the
exhibition.
This exhibition is the first in a series resulting from the African Art
Centre, Velobala/ Curate.A.Space workshop for new exhibition makers. The
exhibition makers of Footsteps of the
Fathers are Leevi Matthew, Phakamani Dladla, Phindile Mkize and Siyasanga
Tundzi.
Interested artists must send an email for the conditions of entry to curate.a.space@gmail.com
