Multiple award winning actor and director, Rajesh Gopie – known for his international hit plays Out of Bounds and The Coolie Odyssey – brings his brand new production, By Hook Or By Crook, to Sibaya at the end of June 2018.

By Hook Or By Crook is a razor sharp political comedy that will have audiences of all creeds at the edges of their seats laughing and foot stomping.

An authentic South African production, By Hook Or By Crook boasts a cast of 15 local performers in a story set against the backdrop of the municipal flats and informal trader market in Chatsworth. The plot revolves around Manikum Chetty, a former freedom fighter, who hungers to restore the values of the freedom struggle.

He comes face to face with corrupt political leaders, who are intent on destroying the homes of people living in his area. Does he still have the “good-fight” left in his aging body? Does he still possess moral leadership, or will he succumb to corruption and bribery like so many others?

It all unravels in this meaty and delicious homegrown show where a host of lovable, familiar and sometimes unsavoury characters are revealed. By Hook Or By Crook dishes out a theatrical feast of local politics and jolts the consciousness on the subject of moral leadership. The show is laced with original music and tantalizing choreography and the cast have been handpicked as part of a development project created by Gopie.
