(Gideon
Lombard. Pic Sanmari Marais)
Following sold-out performances and a
sensational national tour (including the 2017 National Arts Festival main
programme and the Fugard Theatre), the award-winning production Die Reuk van Appels features at the
Hilton Arts Festival.
Gideon Lombard stars in this stage adaption
of the acclaimed 1993 debut novel by South African author Mark Behr, telling
the coming-of-age story of Marnus Erasmus, 11-year-old son of a South African
Defence Force (SADF) general.
It eloquently captures the Afrikaner
mentality in the late 1970s and early 1980s and the brutal consequences of
apartheid and militarisation of South African life. It is directed by Lara Bye.
In the history of the festival, there has never been a play holding as many
awards. It simply must be seen!
Performances take place in the Memorial
Hall (unreserved seating) on September 15 at 15h00 and September 16 at 10h00.
Tickets R175. Running time 90 minutes. Age +16 SNLVP (Sex, Nudity, Language,
