(“Mark and Elvis” by
Mandy Kok)
A new art exhibition of 80 portraits titled MozaiK by Durban clinical psychologist and artist Mandy Kok, is
running at The Foyer at Studio 3 on the Point Waterfront Durban.
Artist Luc Ducray made these remarks in the exhibition opening speech:
"The practice of psychology requires complete attention on one
individual. Painting is similar: it requires time and effort that taking a
quick photo of someone can't equal.
"The reference images for this series were quick-pick Facebook
updates that Mandy appropriated, many being sourced from friends' feeds and
phones. This interaction between the digital reference and the painted product
is a real testament to how the painted image speaks to us about sincerity and
vulnerability in a very tactile way that we never tire of. It is the human
touch that brings out the awkward imperfections of each individual
character."
MozaiK runs until October 6,
2018, at The Foyer at Studio 3, 3 Southampton Street, Point Waterfront in Durban.
Gallery hours are Tuesday to Friday 10h00 to 15h00.
