The Durban Actors Studio 1 Year Acting Intensive is for
people aged 18 to 25 who want to develop practical and academic theatrical
skills. Students will attend over 300 guided learning hours with the DAS team,
receiving practical and theoretical performance training. All training works
towards students entering the international, RQF certified, LAMDA Acting
examination as well as the opportunity to perform at the end of the year for
invited VIPs, talent agents, local directors and industry / tertiary
professionals.
The curriculum includes the following modules:
Theatre History (Greek, Shakespeare, Realism)
Theatre Skills (Acting Technique, Improvisation, Devising)
Theatre Arts (Voice Technique, Movement)
The Durban Actors Studio believes in laying strong
foundations for performers who are considering a career in the arts sector. The
Acting Intensive programme is based in practical skills development and
hands-on practice to consolidate theory work.
“In addition to the exam track training, we will host
speakers and lecturers who are working industry professionals to give insight on
their field of expertise such as arts administration, budgeting, funding,
branding and management of the artist,” says Gill Bruning, Durban Actors Studio
- Director
Training takes place at Durban Actors Studio Tuesdays and
Thursdays, 09h30 through to 15h30, February to November, with breaks for the usual
academic holidays. Students will be expected to put in the required self-guided
learning hours for research and rehearsal.
“We are commencing our 2019 programme interviews this week and
will close applications as soon as we reach our max student allocation, which
is only 10 students. The programme costs R37,200 per year, which can be paid
annually, per semester or per term – payment terms will be discussed and agreed
to during our interview,” adds Bruning.
