This weekend, Baroque 2000 will celebrate
the Patroness of Music with the majestic and powerful work by George Frideric
Handel: The Ode for St Cecilia’s Day.
This is one of Handel’s masterpieces which includes a choir - namely the Durban
Chamber Choir – and a rich orchestral formation including flute, oboes,
trumpets and timpani.
The choir will be enhanced by voices from
the OFS University’s Opera Department as well as some from the Choir of the
Lutheran Church in Wartburg. Two soloists will be flown in from Cape Town for
the occasion: Elsabé Richter (soprano) and Willem Bester (tenor).
The conductor will be Maestro Lance
Phillip.
The concert programme will open with the
overture to Agrippina by Handel. Don’t miss the rare opportunity to hear this
great and seldom performed music.
The concert takes place at the church of
the Mariannhill Monastery at 15h00 on November 25. Tickets R150 at the door.
There is ample and free parking. Further information, please call Michel 082
