Deadline:
January 18, 2019
The Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) is
democratic South Africa’s longest-standing arts, culture and heritage funding
and development organization. ACT invites interested parties to submit
proposals to develop a corporate identity for the organisation.
ACT was established in 1994 to secure
financial and other resources for the South African arts, culture and heritage
sector; and to project the needs and role of the sector into the public domain.
The organisation’s establishment was as a
result of a public-private partnership between the newly-established Ministry
of Arts, Culture, Science & Technology (now the Department of Arts &
Culture), Nedcor Bank (now Nedbank) and Sun International. These three entities
collaboratively set up a body for South Africa’s arts, culture and heritage
sector similar to Nedcor Bank’s Sports and Green Trusts established earlier.
Each of these three founding trustees contributed R1 million which was invested
in a trust fund to ensure sustainability and minimise the organisation’s
possible dependence on annual grants.
A board of trustees made up of leading arts
practitioners and administrators was established soon thereafter. Its task was
to implement the funding policies, evaluate projects and to decide on funding
allocations. Former President Nelson Mandela endorsed the initiative and agreed
to serve as ACT’s Patron-in-Chief. In this way, it came to be called the Arts
& Culture Trust of the President during his term of office.
During the first five-year period, the
Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Vodacom joined ACT and
contributed to the trust endowment. Thus, the public-private partnership was
extended to include international cooperation.
Over the past 24 years, the trust has
disbursed more than R20 million to arts and culture projects across South
Africa. This excludes ACT Awards prize money and other developmental efforts
such as the ACT Building Blocks master classes.
Vision: To establish a self- sustaining perpetual fund for the development
of arts, culture and heritage in South Africa.
Mission: To attract and provide funding for the sustainable development and
growth of the arts, culture and heritage in South Africa, actualised through
mutually beneficial partnerships between the corporate, public and cultural
sectors focused on making a positive difference to the lives of all South
Africans.
Corporate
Identity: ACT seeks the services of a graphic
designer or graphic design company to create a corporate identity which will
represent the organisation and its work. The corporate identity should be a
visual representation of the organisation’s work and reflect the organisation’s
vision and mission. Each of the elements submitted for consideration, although
distinct, should be part of a larger visual identity contemplated for the
organisation as a whole.
Interested parties should deliver drafts of
the following corporate identity elements by Friday, January 18, 2019, in order
to be considered:

Only shortlisted candidates will be
contacted and given the opportunity to make a presentation of their work in
person at the Arts & Culture Trust offices.
