DALISU NDLAZI FOR CENTRE FOR JAZZ

The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music will present bassist Dalisu Ndlazi at Centre for Jazz and Popular Music on March 13, 2019.

Ndlazi’s musical career started at Siyakhula Community Development Centre in Umlazi. This young bassists playing is far beyond his age. He was selected as the Standard Bank Youth Jazz festival band bassist for three years in a row in 2015, 2016 and 2017. He has performed with greats such as Nduduzo Makhathini, Andile Yenana, Sazi Dlamini, Mbuzo Khoza and the late Brian Thusi to name a few. He was a part of the VCU exchange with the UKZN Storytellers that went to Virginia USA.

He has recorded with Prof Salim Washington( Sankofa) and Sibusiso Mashiloane (amanzi olwandle) and has toured in Gabon, Swaziland, Mozambique, Lesotho and has played in local festivals such as the Joy of Jazz, Jazz in July, Ugu, Newcastle Heritage And Jazz, Essence Festival, Vereeniging Music Festival, National Arts Festival, Durban Beach Festival, Jazz Expression, Hazelmere Dam Jazz Festival, Durban Bass Festival in various prestigious venues around the country.

Joining Dalisu Ndlazi (bass) will be his band: Thabo Skhakhane (trumpet), Mthunzi Mvubu (alto), Sanele Phakathi (piano), Riley Giandari (drums), Njabulo Shabalala (percussions) and special guest Salim Washington on saxophones, flute, Thulisile Fekisi (spoken words) and Nhlakanipho Mkhize (canvas).

The concert takes place on March 13, 2019, at 18h00 (doors open at 17h30) at The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music (CJPM), Level 2, Shepstone Building at UKZN Howard College Campus.
