In celebration of their newly-built Theatre
Centre, St Anne’s Diocesan College will stage This Is Me, a song and dance production in tribute to musical
performance. The numbers have been specifically chosen to expose the college’s
talented female voices, as well as for their musicality, theatricality, and
timeless relevance to making brave, individual choices in the face of
conformity. The producers have also chosen a few unusual songs that do not
generally make the cut in musical reviews, but thoroughly deserve the
limelight!
Musical numbers have been taken from both
theatre and film genre, namely The
Greatest Showman, Hairspray, Mamma Mia 1 and 2, Sarafina, Sister Act, Mulan, Anastasia, West Side Story, Victor
Victoria, The King & I, Moulin Rouge and Wicked.
The cast includes 70 young ladies from the
College, 28 singers and 42 dancers, who are rehearsing tirelessly to create
this musical spectacular. The production team is led by Artistic Director, Lynn
Chemaly, and includes Choreographer, Tegan Peacock, Voice training specialists,
Elsa and Riaan Oosthuizen, musicians Anthea Hibbert, Andri Potgieter and Rudi
Engelbrecht, who will play the live accompaniment, and Technical Director
extraordinaire, Marcus Henning.
