(Dr
Bridget Rennie-Salonen)
The second Concert of Baroque 2000’ Series
will take place on Sunday 5 May, 11h30, at the Church of the Mariannhill
Monastery.
The programme will explore works composed
either just before of just after the border-line of the “Golden Baroque”, a
period in time usually considered as being Johann Sebastian Bach’s dates of
birth and death (1685–1750).The performance will open with the famous Fechtschule (the fencing school) by
Johann Heinrich Schmelzer.
Dr Bridget Rennie-Salonen will be the
soloist in the concerto for flute in D minor by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (JS
Bach’s second son). The concert will end with the famous Symphony No 94 by
Joseph Haydn. This work is also called “Surprise”
or the symphony “Mit dem Paukenschlag”
(with the timpani hit): the audience will indeed be very surprised and
entertained by Baroque 2000’s own interpretation of this beautiful work!
The concert will take place at 11h30 on May
5, 2019, at the Church of the Mariannhill Monastery. Tickets R150 at the door
and The Monastery’s Tea garden is open for refreshments and light lunches.
There is ample, safe and free parking.
