This week The Hex plays host to Gcina
Mhlope’s best known work, Have You Seen
Zandile? It observes Zandile’s relationship with her grandmother before she
is abducted by her mother who takes her home to the rural Transkei.
It explores themes around identity and how
it is formed through language and relationships, as well as the complexities of
being a black woman under the apartheid regime. Mhlope’s award-winning script
is brought to life on the Hex stage this week by Nompilo Jili and Sane Gumede.
Directed by Sparky Xulu and designed by
Pumelela Nqelenga, the show runs at 60 minutes.
