In May, Christopher Duigan performs an
outstanding selection of the music of the supreme Romantic piano poet, Frederic
Chopin (1810 - 1849). In Magnificent
Chopin Duigan plays music that highlights the bold, virtuosic and majestic
elements of the composer’s music over the more readily-expected effusive,
elegant and atmospheric elements, often seen as typical of the composer’s
music.
The programme includes the Scherzo No 3,
the Ballade No 3, and a selection of Etudes, Mazurkas, and Nocturnes. The
programme ends with Chopin’s monumental Sonata No 3.
Duigan, a Steinway Artist, has devoted much
time to the study and performance of Chopin’s music in his professional career
over the last 25 years and was invited to give two recital programmes of the
composer’s music at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown in 2010 on the
200th anniversary of the composer's birth.
Since 2016 he has given over 40 performances detailing the insight he
gained into Chopin's life and his music while on a trip to Warsaw, Poland and
the Chopin Museum.
