The exhibition AFROFUTURA, presented
by Eastcoast House and Garden Show & The KZNSA Gallery opens on July 4, 2019,
at 17h30 for 18h00.
AFROFUTURA brings
KwaZulu-Natal’s stellar talent together in a collection of standout pieces that
push traditional techniques and materials to new heights of technology and
aesthetics.
Curated by Durban creative, Claire Clark and Angela Shaw of KZNSA
Gallery for the East Coast Radio House & Garden Show’s Discover Durban
Design stand, the theme for 2019 focuses on the energy and sophistication of
current design and art in KZN.
AFROFUTURA showcases original
work by artists, designers, creators and makers in, or from, Durban and takes
visitors on an experiential journey referencing tradition and the past, while
re-imagining the future with a touch of fantasy.
The exhibition includes new work in furniture, ceramics, jewelry, art,
textiles, graphic design, fashion and décor from established and emerging local
practitioners.
Participating artists and designers are Houtlander, Derrick Nxumalo,
Sthenjwa Luthuli, Clarisse Design, Bonfece Cele, Kipekee Studio, Bright Dimba,
Hlengiwe Dube, Madetomake, Souled Studios, Zethu Shoes, Katekani Moreku, Africa
Ignite, Savage Jewelry, Ruth Samaai Designs, Egg Design, NT Design, Sne Lombo,
Composite Décor, Glenn Ardendorff, Minenhle Zazi Cira, Khosi Leteba and Dean
Jay.
The KZNSA Arts Cafe and Bar will be open for patrons to make an evening
of it.
There will be a LAB Talk at 16h30 with featured artists Nikhil Tricam,
Nindya Bucktowar of NT Design, Zazi Minenhle Cira, Rejoice Kunene, Kevin Boyd,
Xavier Clarisse and Reggi Xaba. Come and hear more about their work, there will
be a Q&A after the presentations.
