OUR SONG: BURTON NAIDOO

(Burton Naidoo)

Forward-thinking artist Burton Naidoo will present his latest work, Our Song, at Rhumbelow Theatre on July 12 and 13.

Inspired by the life and character of Nelson Mandela, pianist, composer and arranger Naidoo has transcribed some of his most iconic speeches.

The words of the speeches are pitch-classed and harmonised in the effort to create a musical backdrop to these important pieces. Naidoo has also written new compositions to compliment the performance.

Written for solo piano and track, the audience can expect speeches from the Rivonia Trial, Praise singing from Sthembile Mlangeni and Zolani Mkhiva at the inauguration, as well as FW De Klerk’s announcement to free Nelson Mandela at Parliament, 1990.

A proliļ¬c composer, Naidoo has performed throughout the world and continues to push the boundaries of his musical imagination.

Our Song was presented to an audience for the first time at the Hilton Arts Festival on September 15, 2018.
