Five Photographers -
A Tribute to David Goldblatt now on at the
Durban Art Gallery reflects on world-renowned photographer and icon David
Goldblatt's contribution to photography by looking at a new generation of
photographers.
This exhibition, one of the last projects that Goldblatt worked on, was
developed as a tribute exhibition by the French Institut of South Africa to
celebrate his retrospective exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, Paris (February-May,
2018).
The event is described by arts journalist Wanda Hennig as a “beyond-stunning
exhibition”.
Photographers featured are:
Alexia Webster (South Africa) - Street
Studios. She uses street corners and public spaces to set up outdoor
studios
Jabulani Dhlamini (South Africa) - the memory and remembrance of Sharpeville.
Mauro Vombe (Mozambique) - public transport and powerless passengers in
Maputo
Pierre Crocquet (South Africa) - Pinky
Promise: perpetrators and victims of sexual abuse
The exhibition title references Goldblatt as another photographer.
