With a vibrant vision to celebrate and empower women, Womandla! combines the launch of the highly anticipated women's writing collection (aptly called Womandla!) with an awards event honouring some of South Africa’s most iconic women. This will take place on August 25, 2019, at the 1860 Heritage Centre in eThekwini Durban.

This unique event showcases the writing achievements of selected poets and writers, features five brilliant women speakers (Shabnam Palesa Mohamed, Puleng Nomvula Ndlovukazi, Maya Jagjivan Kalicharan, Chantal Snyman, Sheena St Clair Jonker) and honours iconic women in law, the arts, human rights, and academics. These exemplary women achievers include: Judge Navi Pillay, Dr Gcina Mhlophe, Dr Betty Govinden, Dr Ela Gandhi, Yaa Ashentewaa Ngidi-Archer, Shehnilla Mohamed, Nise Malange, Cookie Edwards, Caroline Smart (artSMart Editor) and Dr Mariam Seedat .

The organisation pays gratitude to radio presenter and actor Jayshree Parasuramen, comedian and businesswoman Anasia Govender, musician and spa therapist Lucille Cornelius, as well as the generous sponsors including: CFAD, Chilli Kadhai Foods, Country Bake, Innovative Jedi, Jayshree Parasuramen, Lucille Cornelius, R Photography, Tabloid Newspapers and The Lemon Tree.

(Other sponsors wishing to support this event are welcome to contact Womandla! via inbox/email).

With social upliftment always in their hearts, Womandla commits a portion of proceeds from sales of the book Womandla! to veteran NGO Advice Desk for the Abused.

The event takes place from 11h00 on August 25 at the 1860 Heritage Centre in eThekwini Durban. Tickets (which will raise funds for CFAD art students’ bursaries) are limited to 150 people, and includes high tea sponsored by Durban's favourite bakery Country Bake. Tickets R100 for early birds - and R150 at the door plus a blanket for the homeless.
