The acclaimed Empatheatre production The Last Country is returning for a
final season in Durban at the Courtyard Theatre at DUT on November 27 and 28
with a further performance at the Denis Hurley Centre on November 29.
This moving and immersive theatre
production, created by award-winning Durban theatre-makers Neil Coppen and
Mpume Mthombeni, is based on the real life stories of migrant women living in
Durban and was heralded by the Mercury newspaper as “astonishing, moving and
profoundly brilliant”
The production which has been in rep for
three years, incorporates over 30 oral
histories collected as part of a larger Urban Future Centre, Democracy
Development Programme and ASONET’s research and advocacy project titled Migration and the Inclusive City (funded
by the Cities Alliance) and features the talents of Mpume Mthombeni, Philisiwe Twijnstra, Nompilo
Maphumulo and Zinhle Bobi.
Available tickets for show times at the Courtyard
Theatre are November 27 and 28 at 12h00 and 19h00. The performance on November
29 at the Denis Hurley Centre takes place at 11h30.
