OUR CHOICE EXHIBITION

("The Purple shall Govern". Silkscreen by Vedant Nanackchand)

Our Choice Exhibition will open in the Tatham Art Gallery’s Main Gallery in Pietermaritzburg on December 1 at 11h00.

Our Choice is an extensive exhibition of art works drawn from the Tatham Art Gallery’s permanent collection. Both full time staff and volunteers who serve on the Board of Trustees and its Committees have been invited to participate by choosing an art work that has moved them in some way.

Some of the art works displayed have been in storage for many years. Others are old favourites. Displayed with each art work is the name of the person who chose it, and a motivation for their choice. There will be fun and inspiring Talk Shops by the participants to support this exhibition.

Our Choice Exhibition: Comment from the exhibition organisers:

“In order to widen our perspective as TAG team, we moved the focus away from the single curator. Art is not only for the academics or enlightened people (one need not to be too artistic to appreciate art). We are interested in the reactions awakened in people, and we welcome different interpersonal reactions towards the art works chosen and displayed.

“We are expecting the viewers to respond spontaneously and with enthusiasm, as the art works are not all contained in one exhibition space. We needed to consider the validity of everyone's point of view concerning the texts next to each choice of an artwork from the Tatham Art Gallery collection."

*Feel free to contact education officer for any risen question for clarification.
*Bear in mind there will be a talk-about kind of workshops to follow around this exhibition.

Our Choice Exhibition will runs from December 1, 2019, to April 19, 2020, in the Tatham Art Gallery.
