HEAD FOR DARLING & PIETER-DIRK UYS

(Evita Bezuidenhout & Pieter-Dirk Uys)

If you missed Pieter-Dirk Uys’ fascinating #HeTwo:Evita when it ran in Pietermaritzburg and Durban last month, why not take a trip down to Uys’ Evita se Perron in Darling where this show will be part of its 23rd Christmas Season from December 1 to 31.

The season offers a choice of ten different shows by Pieter-Dirk Uys which will offer a challenging tour de force from this comedy icon. Details about each show can be found on www.evita.co.za

The December Christmas Season:

#HeTwo:Evita exposed! (Monday 16; Friday 20; Sunday 22; Monday 30)
Tannie Evita and Pieter-Dirk Uys on stage together at the same time! Essentially a tribute to Evita Bezuidenhout and very little about the man behind the woman! A truly remarkable man who deserves high praise indeed. Don’t miss this one!

An Audience with Pieter-Dirk EISH! (Saturday 14)

Tannie Evita Praat Kaktus (mainly in English) (Sunday 01; Sunday 08; Sunday 15; Sunday 29)
Our history as it should have been: a revisionist look at the history of white South Africa, from the arrival in 1652 of the Kaktus of Separate Development on the Drommedaris, through the Great Trek, Blood River, the 1948 Election and the arrival of the National Party and official apartheid, to the birth of democracy and the reality of today. Tannie Evita, in English, takes you on a journey, a hilarious rollercoaster ride to freedom of expression.

Evita's Xmas Tree (Thursday 19 to Tuesday 24)
Tannie does not have a big white beard or come down the chimney. Her reindeer do not soil the gravel path outside the fences of Evita se Perron and she does not sit in judgement of small children and their naughty acts of life. She also don´t give out presents to everyone. But her piano is groaning under the pile of gifts, tinsel, wrappings and secrets. Join Evita preparing for her ultimate Xmas in December and realise that to celebrate family, friends and yourself, you don’t really need an official reason. Every day at Evita se Perron is a holiday. Some of those can be Xmas as well.

Adapt or Fly (Friday 27)
It is 30 years since PieterDirk Uys started his total onslaught on politics with Adapt or Dye in 1981. Everything has changed so radically that some issues have become the same! Julius Malema’s recent outbursts have led to some citizens enquiring about emigration. An ANC spokesman added fuel to the fire by suggesting that ‘all cowards can go if they can’t take the future here. They can adapt or fly!’ A new title for a new minefield and we rollick handinhand through the ups and downs of South African politics.

When in doubt, say darling (Saturday 07; Saturday 28)
Pieter-Dirk Uys is sorting out 40 years of distress, disguise and disgust: from apartheid to tripartite, from amandla to Nkandla, from Brexit to Zexit. Wigs, glasses, wagging fingers, toyi-toyis, red berets, trump cards of madness, icons and aikonas; from Bezuidenhouts to Alzheimers. At a time when a casual greeting or embrace can be seen as racist or harassment, the advice is simple: when in doubt, say darling. If you can’t remember their names, just say darling. So see you in Darling, darling.

Never Too Naked (evening Friday 27)

Ouma Ossewania Praat Vuil (in Afrikaans) (evening Saturday 28)
Ouma Ossewania Praat Vuil is ‘n ander soort storie. “Ek vloek nooit as ek praat nie. Net as ek dink. Soos nou” is haar verduideliking. Kom sien haar voor sy vrek!

The Echo of a Noise (evening Saturday 07)
Now in his 74th year, Pieter Dirk Uys looks back on a life fully lived and hints at the challenges ahead of making the impossible even more extraordinary. The book is also available in Darling and selected bookshops.

Evita: Goodbye 2019! (Tuesday 31)

Evita se Perron is open Monday to Sunday for breakfast and lunch from 09h00 to 16h00. A daily a-la-carte menu as well as a daily specials board is available as well as Bambi's Berlin Bar which is fully licenced.
