(Russell
Comrie)
A unique magic show, Mysteries, is opening at Seabrooke’s Theatre in Durban on December 19,
2019.
Created by and starring acclaimed magician
Russell Comrie, and directed by former Durban director, academic and magician,
Murray McGibbon, this one-man show explores the nature of secrets and how they
shape our perception of magic, of reality, and of ourselves.
Mysteries is unlike any other magic show: witty, enchanting, and utterly
mystifying, it’s a guided tour into the secret world of a master magician.
Award-winning magician Russell Comrie takes audiences on a magical journey,
performing his own take on the classic tricks of yesteryear, lifting the veil
on the gambler’s subtle art, and even reading a mind or several (using only
willing participants, of course).
Russell Comrie is an award-winning
professional magician and serves on the committee of the South African Magical
Society. Murray McGibbon is one of South Africa's most prominent theatre
personalities and a multi-award-winning director and producer. He is well-known
to Durban audiences from his tenure as Artistic Director for the Playhouse
Company. He is currently Associate Professor of Theatre, Drama and Contemporary
Dance at Indiana University Bloomington in the United States.
Adding to the festive spirit, Distillery
031, Durban’s premier craft spirit distillery, will be on hand before and after
the show, serving delicious craft gins and cocktails (with a smattering of
non-alcoholic drinks as well) from their beautiful mobile bar.
The show runs for ±75 minutes and is
suitable for all ages (although it is not recommended for children under ten
years old, who may find it difficult to follow).
It’s an intimate theatrical experience
unlike any other, not to be missed this festive season!
