“ASSITEJ SA is gearing up for an exciting
year as we start to plan our first Cradle of Creativity in Gauteng in 2021,” says
Yvette Hardie, National Director: ASSITEJ South Africa.
ASSITEJ SA focuses on the capacity to:
-Create access to theatre for all children
and young people
-Support and develop theatre makers working
for young audiences
-Empower education through bringing theatre
into the classroom
-Promote international connections and
partnerships to advocate for the arts
“In the run up to that festival, we will
host our incubation festival, In the Works (the African Youth Theatre and Dance
Festival), at the Market Theatre in August this year. This festival is designed
to work WITH children and young people to ensure that quality work in dance and
theatre is created FOR them,” says Hardie.
“We are also excited to have become a
MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet recipient. This means that you can contribute to
ASSITEJ SA's mission to ensure that every child in South Africa can experience
high quality arts, while shopping at Woolworths and connected stores. Please
add ASSITEJ SA to your beneficiaries or sign up for a MySchool card, by filling
in the attached form and emailing to cs@myschool.co.za.
“2020 is also the year of our 20th World
Congress and Performing Arts Festival, Mirai, which will be held in Tokyo,
Japan. We are delighted that a number of South African productions,
researchers, and artists have been selected to participate in different aspects
of this mega-event. We look forward to flying the SA flag high this year and
ensuring that the world knows what our country has to offer.”
