(Cathy
Peacock, Andreas Kappen & Kirsten Sayers)
Rhumbelow Theatre Durban will present The Great Gatsby Party on January 18 to
26, 2020.
The
Great Gatsby Party is still one of the most popular
themes for parties to this day. Change was in the air in the 1920’s and this
was reflected in the jazz music of the time.
Platform Jazz’s new show The Great Gatsby Party will entertain
with “Hot” Jazz numbers such as Puttin’
on the ritz, The Sheik of Araby, Aint Misbehavin,’ Chicago and more. Be
prepared to hear new songs in an old style and old songs in a new style! The
favourites by Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller and Louis Armstrong are on the
programme. Cathy “Hotlips” Peacock on trumpet, Kirsten “the kitten” Sayers on clarinet
, Jeff “Papa Wok” Robinson on sax and newcomer Andrea “The Italian” Bolloco on
trombone complete the frontline whilst Melvin Peters on keys, “Bashful” Bruce
Baker on drums and Andreas “Bullfiddle” Kappen on bass complete the rhythm section.
Durban's best loved singer Shelley McLean Downham is on vocals.
Platform Jazz will surely get audiences
shimmying and flapping and their toes definitely tapping at their new show. Don
those spats, boas and fascinators and come and join the party.
