Business and Arts South Africa NPC (BASA)
recognises that the actual and projected impact of Covid-19 will have a
particularly devastating effect on the creative sector.
We recognise that the widespread
cancellations of festivals, concerts, productions, exhibitions, events and
cultural programmes locally and internationally due to the Covid-19 pandemic is
a Sword of Damocles hanging over the livelihoods of artists globally. We are
aware that there are likely not very many arts and culture organisations that
will have adequate reserves to sustain them through these uncertain times.
In light of this, we are working hard to
ensure that there is no interruption to the BASA Supporting Grants programme
and applications for the next round are now open. We also confirm that an
agreement has been signed with the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture
(DSAC) for the second iteration of the DAC Debut Programme.

SUPPORTING GRANT PROGRAMME
Business and Arts South Africa (NPC)
Supporting Grant Programme is designed for artist/arts organisations and
businesses to assist in activating sponsorship for a cross-section of arts
projects in different regions of the country. This is done by providing
financial support to a project that is in an already existing relationship
between a business and arts organisation.
To apply for a BASA Supporting Grant, both
the arts applicant and the sponsor must complete the application forms, which
are designed to encourage the two partners to work together and identify areas
of potential benefit. BASA allocates funds to the project once it has assessed
how the partnership benefits both the sponsor and the recipient.
Supporting Grant applications forms are now
available in English, isiZulu and seSotho.
Once the grants have been approved, the
projects and sponsors can be further profiled through Business and Arts South
Africa’s media partners. In addition, successful partnerships are also
encouraged to enter the BASA Awards, partnered by Hollard.

It’s important to note that BASA Supporting
Grants are not another form of public subsidy to cap budgets, matching grant or
to make up shortfalls, but are very specifically aligned to projects that are
already linked to business or corporate support and leverage opportunities.
NB:
repeat Business Sponsors applying for Supporting Grants are required to be paid
up members of Business and Arts South Africa (NPC).
