The Theatre – St Anne’s Diocesan College in
Hilton will present Escape to Mars (A
Conversation on Earth) from March 16 to 19, 2020.
Starting from Samuel Beckett’s premise that
it is the task of the artist to find a form that accommodates the mess - we
embark on a journey through time and space. Earth is in rapid decline, ravaged
by war and climate change – Mars has been identified as our last hope. If this
is indeed true, where does that leave us, the human race? Who will go? Who will
stay? What will remain of earth as we know it? Can we save ourselves or is it
too late?
Devised with an ensemble cast of 16 senior
girls, we explore these themes and many others in a fast-paced mockumentary
drawing from modern day mainstream media.
The workshop process is scripted by Louise
Buchler with artistic direction by Lynn Chemaly and technical design by Marcus
Henning. It promises to be both relevant, thought-provoking and thoroughly
entertaining.
Escape
to Mars (A Conversation on Earth) has performances
at 19h30 from March 16 to 19 in The Theatre at St Anne’s Diocesan College.
