JUNKETS PUBLISHES NEW PLAYSCRIPTS

(Robin Malan & Andi Mgibantaka)

Lockdown notwithstanding, Cape Town-based Junkets Publishers run by Andi Mgibantaka (Business, Admin) and Robin Malan (Editorial) have published two new Playscripts:

Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Metaphors

Mike van Graan was set the impossible-sounding task of writing a play featuring the Sustainable Development Goals – 17 of them!

The eagerly awaited play is titled Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Metaphors - Junkets-MVG-LRRH-FCov-W

Inventive as ever, van Graan produced this re-imagining of the famed fable ingeniously incorporating the SDGs. Not only that, but he also employed various theatrical styles in a highly entertaining way, from a Greek Chorus through to rapping. What’s more, for any number of performers of either sex! What teacher of Dramatic Arts can ask for more?  And they are breaking down our doors to lay their hands on copies! So, act now!  Price is R180, with minimum courier’s fee of R150.

… miskien

The second published play is the multi-authored … miskien by Tara Notcutt, Albert Pretorius and Gideon Lombard. 50-Notcutt-Miskien-FCov-W

The South African “modern classic” has played nationally and internationally with equal impact and relevance.

The play’s three acknowledged authors, who were also the director and two performers, explore in the most subtle way the threads of relationship between these two very ordinary South African ‘okes’. Funny that you can know someone ‘inside out’, yet there are some things you can’t say to that person, and can sometimes not even understand what it is that you’re feeling yourself. That’s ... miskien! “A wonderful read!” says Junkets.

It is written mainly in English, with some scattering or smattering of Afrikaans (always with the English translation supplied).

Recommended retail price is R160.00; minimum courier fee is R150.00. If you are in Cape Town, you can collect from Pinelands and sidestep the courier fee.

Junkets have received a generous grant from The Other Foundation to publish three LGBTIQA+-interest plays - Junkets-Benji-FCov-W

In addition, part of the grant was used to complete the sponsorship for Terence Makapan’s gay-interest play Benji, which was published in March 2020. Both author and publisher are most grateful for this support.

Benji was the runner-up in the 2019 SCRiBE Playwriting competition run by the Imbewu Trust.

The first of the other three plays covered by The Other Foundation’s grant is … miskien, with information about the other two plays under wraps for the moment.
