#LIGHTSARED CAMPAIGN

(The Denis Hurley Centre in the Durban city centre was one of the buildings that was part of the campaign)

A back garden in Umbilo was turned into a magical circus tent for the #LightSAred campaign which took place on August 5, 2020, as the entertainment industry hosted a series of pop-up creative protest actions to raise awareness about the dire situation of the South African technical production and live events industry by shining red lights onto more than 700 public and private buildings across the country.

The industry is made up of freelancers, venue managements, theatres, eventing companies, festival organisers and businesses who have been unable to work since March due to the blanket ban on all live events and performance, due to the Coronavirus lockdown.

The performance Notice Us – was part of the live streaming #LightSAred campaign event on Wednesday evening. The 10m high structure was made during lockdown by Durban events rigging experts, Rigology.
