OPEN CALL | ACT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME BURSARIES EXTENDED

Deadline extended to November 27, 2020

The Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) is extending the deadline for the open call for bursaries in postgraduate studies to November 27, 2020.

ACT invites students accepted for a master’s or doctoral programme in the 2021 academic year to apply for one of 10 ACT bursaries. Applications for bursaries are available for study in any arts discipline. However, preference will be given to students wishing to pursue a master's or doctoral degree in arts management or arts journalism.

Marcus Desando, ACT CEO, says “The ACT Development Programme Bursaries has become one of ACT’s gems and we are very proud that, through our partnership with Nedbank and their Arts Affinity initiative, we have awarded postgraduate bursaries to over 25 deserving beneficiaries who have contributed, and continue to contribute, to a growing body of knowledge in the arts. With this new cycle we hope to do the same.”

The ACT Bursary Scheme will pay out R300,000 in total, with each bursary worth R30,000. The scheme forms part of the ACT Development Programme, which is a longstanding arts development initiative sponsored by Nedbank and administered by ACT. Nedbank contributes to the South African arts-and-culture sector through its Arts Affinity. As the flagship programme of the partnership between ACT and Nedbank, the ACT Development Programme has supported more than 800 organisations and projects nationwide over the past 24 years, a contribution valued at more than R23 million in total.

Tobie Badenhorst, Head of Group Sponsorships and Cause Marketing at Nedbank, says “South Africa and the continent need arts postgraduates who are locally and globally responsive to the need to transform society, reflect a diversity of views, and amplify Africa’s voice in the world. This bursary will be a springboard for master’s and doctoral students in their future careers and we are excited to receive their applications.”

Applications close Friday, November 27, 2020.
