LOVE THE ARTS: AMANDA KUNENE

In day seven of Publicity Matters’ ‘Love the Arts’ feature, they focus on Amanda Kunene - a performer, singer, actor and dancer.

She loves every aspect of performing arts. She has been performing from as young as she can remember, but professionally for 10 years now. She is a BA Music and Drama Performance Studies graduate and a BA Music and Performance Honours graduate from UKZN Howard College. Her two most memorable performances she has been in was performing for the first time on stage with her grandmother in the audience and her debut performance in Seoul South Korea, as the lead role, Nala, in Broadway’s number 1 musical Disney’s The Lion King.

She has performed in South Africa, Swaziland, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, China and Hong Kong and says it is really difficult to say exactly where her favourite place to perform is because every experience has been the greatest experience regardless of city or country.

What do you love about performing?

What I love the most about performing is that I am able to engage people by giving them a memorable in-person experience. The beauty of live performance is that so much unfolds in a unique and not predetermined way through watching and listening to the music, dancing, acting and singing; which potentially creates increased anticipation and feelings involvement for the audience.

I love how unique a performance is, no matter how many times you have performed the same song/show each performance is different and as a performer you learn and grow from that.

Live performance is an experience of entertainment for an audience and for a performer it’s an opportunity to share what we love doing and hopefully to make a difference in someone’s life that day.

When was the last time you performed?

I was part of a live performance in December called Stories 2020” directed by Roland Perold. What I wish for 2021 is ... for progress in the entertainment industry during this pandemic.
