Fast Ice is the 18th book in the NUMA files series written by Clive Cussler and Graham Brown.
Clive Cussler was an American adventure novelist and underwater explorer. He died in February 2020 at the age of 88, in Arizona, USA. Cussler was the founder and chair of NUMA – National Underwater and Marine Agency, which has discovered over 60 shipwrecks and numerous other notable underwater wrecks. He was the sole or lead author of over 80 books. Several of his books have also been made into action films. Graham Brown has co-authored with Cussler on several novels, he is a pilot and an attorney, and currently lives in Arizona.
Fast Ice is a fast paced, high action novel that swiftly draws the reader in and, before you know it, many hours have passed as you surf, ski, sail, crawl and tunnel your way through with Kurt Austin and his assistant Joe Zavala, in a race to Antarctica, to foil a plot that threatens to endanger the entire planet.
We are taken from the early days of World War II and an infamous German Luftwaffe expedition to Antarctica, to a present-day threat that is just as dangerous. A wealthy madman together with his sister and a team of followers hell bent on earth’s destruction, via the introduction of a man-made Ice Age.
The action moves from Antarctica to South Africa, to Finland and back to Antarctica at a rapid pace. At last, you discover the link to the Luftwaffe expedition, an intriguing addition to the story, is this historical fact or fiction? Prompting yet more reading and investigating to find out.
Admittedly, some of the action, the technology, and the risks taken are on the edge of plausibility, and yet we read on, determined to see if the Kurt and his colleagues from NUMA can outwit the madman. As promised, an action -packed, adventure-filled read that the author is renowned for.
