The South African Gold Coin Exchange (SAGCE) & The Scoin Shop are thrilled to announce that they are again partnering with 67 Blankets for Mandela Day and are launching their collaboration under the banner: Kindness is the Golden Thread.

Rael Demby, CEO of the SAGCE & The Scoin Shop, says, “We have been associated with 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day since it started 2014. Carolyn Steyn invited us to get involved, and we got behind this wonderful initiative which brings warmth and hope to countless communities.”

This July, SAGCE & The Scoin Shop announces their sponsorship of R67,000 of the revolutionary “big-ball wool” from KISMET Yarns. Each branded ball is 300g of continuous knitting and crocheting fun and comes in a kaleidoscope of vibrant colours. 67 Blankets for Mandela Day will distribute this wool to their “KnitWits” for Madiba nationally courtesy of Stuttaford Van Lines. Demby adds, “Our support will allow the many KnitWits to gear up production and complete an estimated 300 blankets.”

Philanthropist and founder Carolyn Steyn says: “What started seven years ago as a simple challenge for me to make 67 blankets by Mandela Day has snowballed into what many are calling a “movement” – a movement for good and change in this world and having SAGCE and the Scion Shop on board means that there is more wool, which means more blankets and keeping more people warm”.

Demby adds: “67 Blankets for Mandela Day is all about making a positive impact to honour the legacy of Madiba. We are proud to be adding our message that Kindness is the Golden Thread and are looking forward to all the blankets bringing warmth to those in need”.

“67 Blankets for Mandela Day relies on the skills, hard work and “GoodWool” of our many “KnitWits” who are busy all year round to keep the blankets coming. Behind every person who picks up a needle or hook is a huge pile of yarn, and this substantial commitment from SAGCE & The Scoin Shop means that 1,300 balls are headed to our yarn goddesses!” concludes Steyn.
