Sagiya Foundation supported by Concerts SA in partnership with The Playhouse Company presents Sagiya Virtual Jazz CD Launch in Concert.
This year Sagiya Foundation eagerly presents this project as a CD Launch of the brilliant Jazz musicians, Vincent Mtetwa and Mduduzi Magwaza, while introducing Nicky Shange to the music industry as a solo artist. She will be performing with her well-experienced band, which includes Bernard Mndaweni on bass, Sibusiso Zondi on drums, Shemual Mahabeer on piano, Lebo Lequoa on 2nd keys, Bethuel Tshoane on guitar and Siya Duma on saxophone. Her backing vox includes Sindi Mabika, Shaun Lightman and Sifiso Cele.
Shange will be launching her three singles consecutively soon after this Virtual Concert, as Nicky Shange Live in Concert.
Vincent Mtetwa had been working with Sagiya Foundation from its founding stage as a musical director of Izintombi Musical and Dim-Dep Musical theatre productions, written and produced by Atlas Duma, the Director of Sagiya Foundation.
Mtetwa has performed throughout the country and internationally as a jazz musician and Lecturer, also working with the traditional African musicians in South Africa. He has shared the stage with many great musicians such as Madala Kunene, Umkhumbane Jazz Ensemble, Hugh Masekela, Jimmy Dludlu, Selaelo Selota, Caiphus Semenya, Brian Thusi and many others.
He has produced a brilliant album, titled Judgement Day, which comprises 12 hit songs. The album features the following musicians, who played critical role to produce the soothing sounds of Judgement Day: Vincent Mtetwa on piano and other keys, Ntokozo Ngcobo on poetry, Mbonisi Nhleko on bass, Sibusiso Zondi on drums, Sbu Dlamini on guitar and Thabo Sikhakhane on flugelhorn. The album was commissioned by SAMRO Music Creation Support Fund #SAMROMCSF. Thanks to Concerts SA for commissioning Sagiya Foundation to host Sagiya Virtual Jazz CD Launch in Concert. “Judgement Day” is available in all Digital Stores and on CD copies.
Last but not least, Sagiya Records will be launching a debut album of the legendary Mduduzi Magwaza, a Penny Whistle icon from Mango Groove, who took after Spokes Mashiyane. Magwaza’s album is titled Siyabonga Njinji, named after his clan’s name Njinji as a token of appreciation to his ancestors for keeping and guiding him through his life and successes he enjoyed during his great shiny days in the music industry. Siyabonga Njinji is available in all Digital Stores and on CD copies.
Vincent Mtetwa, Mduduzi Magwaza and Nicky Shange’ live recording (Audio and Video) will be released in all Digital Stores under Sagiya Records Label. Sagiya Foundation would like to acknowledge the sustainable partnership with Ethekwini Municipality Area Based Management led by Mr Linda Mbonambi.
