(“Maskandi” – 2021. Acrylic on canvas by Sibusiso Duma. Dimensions: 59.5 x 42
The KZNSA Gallery is hosting an online exhibition of works by Sibusiso Duma.
Sibusiso Duma started drawing at an early age. His early style developed using charcoal from the fireplace at his home in Mbumbulu. Duma moved to Umlazi in 1994 where he met his mentor, Trevor Makhoba who introduced him to oils. Thereafter his work gained recognition from the African Arts Centre.
Duma’s first group exhibition was held in 1997 with Trevor Makhoba and Welcome Danca. He continued working with Makhoba until his death in 2003. He later drew inspiration from Sphiwe Zulu's pointillism technique and developed his much-loved style that he currently works in.
