LECTURE BY ALLEYN DIESEL

(Wolf Kibel, Mother and child, monotype)

To accompany the exhibition Mother and Child which opened at the Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg on December 2, there will be an illustrated talk by Alleyn Diesel in the Gallery Lecture theatre on December 4 at 10h30. Entrance is free.

Entitled The Spiritual Symbolism of Mother and Child, Alleyn Diesel will examine aspects of this recurrent motif in art and mythology reaching back to our human origins.

These images form part of what psychologist Carl Jung referred to as our “collective unconscious” reflecting primordial themes such as birth, death, separation, nurturance, preservation, regeneration – characteristics associated with our conceptions of the divine, particularly The Great Mother.

Numbers are limited, so please RSVP to reena.bhoodram@msundizi.gov.za to reserve your seat.

The Tatham Art Gallery is situated in Chief Albert Luthuli Road, (opposite City Hall) in Pietermaritzburg.
