(Right: "Land and Sea no.1" & "Land and Sea no.2" by Sandi Beukes – gilli. 500 x 530 mm framed. R4,500 each)

Durban’s Elizabeth Gordon Gallery is happy to share new paintings by Sandi Beukes, of a new technique, especially for the new year!

Sandi Beukes is an artist who enjoys trying out different styles and exploring new techniques. This way she keeps her followers and collectors interested and keen to see what she’s going to do next.

Elizabeth Gordon Gallery owner Joy Reynolds says: “Last year, Sandi decided to do a course in Gelli Plate printmaking. This is a technique which uses a gelatin plate, a clear flexible plate of different sizes, which enables the artist to create prints without having to use a printing press. Paint is put on the gilli surface, spread out with a brayer, and then water colour paper is placed on top. A variety of stencils can be used to create texture and patterns, areas can be masked off to enable shapes to be defined and more paint added to give different thicknesses.

Sandi works on at least six paintings at a time, keeping to a similar palate so they work together as a series.”

This series is titled Land and Sea and are each identified by number. They are framed in white mounts and a simple white box frame. The size is 500 x 530mm and are priced at R4500 each but can only be bought in pairs.

Elizabeth Gordon Gallery is situated at 120 Florida Road, Morningside, Durban. For more information visit https://elizabethgordon.co.za/
