Tamasa Gallery is proud to present Interweave, an exhibition by Durban’s celebrated artist Hendrik Stroebel.
Hendrik Stroebel explains: My admiration and exploration of the architectural structures of antiquity in the Near East and Central Asia, and the adornment of later Islamic mausoleums and mosques, led me on a quest to visit and explore these sites over the years. This provided a rich set of references; in a sense it became my own "fertile crescent."
“The embroideries represent a 'restitching' of my cultural encounters and is based on personal photographic documentation, observation and memorabilia. The ceramic frames and stars are a further reflection of Islamic decorative adornment. The eight-pointed ceramic stars are typical of Islamic symbolism and decoration.”
The exhibition will run from February 22 until March 25, 2022.
