FOM: MYFANWY PRICE/NINA WATSON

Friends of Music will host a performance by Myfanwy Price (oboe) and Nina Watson (piano) on April 24.

Myfanwy Price was born in Wales, where she began her oboe studies. She completed both her BMUS and her Masters’ Degrees at the Royal College of Music in London. There, she was generously supported by several scholarships and awards: the John Lewis Partnership Award, the Ryan Davies Memorial Fund and the Philharmonia Martin Musical Scholarship Fund. Currently, Myfanwy is the Principal Oboe of the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also enjoyed performing with a variety of orchestras in the UK and Europe. Recent highlights include performing with the Chineke! Orchestra at the BBC Proms and appearing as a soloist alongside Sir Bryn Terfel and the Britten Sinfonia after being selected to join Barbara Hannigan’s new Momentum scheme for emerging artists.

Nina Watson started trying to work out songs on the piano from the age of four, and so begun her musical journey. She attended piano and cello lessons before even learning to read. After school she studied music at Wits University and more recently, she completed her BA Honours Degree (Music) at UKZN. For 23 years, Nina was a tutti cellist in the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra. She also accompanies musicians on the piano and plays in a quartet. Watson is currently the head of choral music at Clifton College in Durban.

-Ravel (arr. Schmitt/Riou):  Tombeau de Couperin

-Paladhile: solo pour hautbois

-Moeran (arr. oboe/piano) Fantasy Quartet

-Morricone: Gabriel's Oboe

-Bizet/ Borne (arr. Messiter): Carmen Fantasy

Due to new Covid regulations it is no longer necessary to pre-book for concerts. Tickets will be available at the door.

Tickets R140 (R120 FOM members). The concert will take place at 15h00 on April 24, 2022, at the Durban Jewish Centre, KE Masinga Road.
