OPERA SCHOOL CHORAL ACADEMY PERFORMANCE & MUSIC WORKSHOP

(Left: Lionel Mkwanazi, Director of Opera Academy, UKZN)

The Opera School Choral Academy will present opera performances and music workshops at Jubilee Hall, Howard College Campus on September 22, 23 and 24, 2022.

The Ipigogo entertainment and productions non-profit company in collaboration with the University of KwaZulu-Natal (Opera school Choral Academy) will be staging an opera Umtshingo wemilingo (The Magic Flute adaption – W A Mozart) as part of showcasing young talent in South Africa.

“Our great honour is witnessing a progression of music careers from students who were initially introduced by the SASCE programme to this genre, these young singers are now pursuing a profession in this field and we saw it fit that the community may support their achievements. The music workshop also stems to assist our South African Matric learners to adequately understand the genre and artistic elements as the adapted opera is part of their music syllabus / curriculum. The music workshop will include NSC previous question papers for 2020/2021 to provide support for music teachers and music students specialising in western classical music,” says Lionel Mkwanazi, Director of Opera Academy, UKZN, and a well-known performer in his own right.

The university is still observing safety measures for Covid-19 and therefore space is limited.

Tickets R100 at the door (R60 pensioners and R30 students. Children are free)
