This exhibition Our Choice will be curated by Tatham Education Staff and will be displayed in the Main Exhibition Room at Pietermaritzburg’s Tatham Art Gallery from Sunday December 4, 2022 until Sunday January 29, 2023.

Our Choice is the second iteration of an eclectic exhibition of artworks drawn from the Tatham Art Gallery’s permanent collection. Artworks displayed have been chosen by staff and volunteers connected with the Tatham Art Gallery.

Both full-time staff and volunteers who serve on the Board of Trustees and its Committees have been invited to participate, by choosing an artwork that has moved them in some way.

Some of the artworks displayed have been in storage for many years. Others are old favourites.  Displayed with each artwork is the name of the person who chose it, and a motivation for their choice.

Some artworks have been chosen by more than one person and the different responses to artworks create an interesting dialogue.

A number of reactions to artworks are affirmative and some are not, but all responses are acknowledged and valued as a personal reaction to an artwork.

Artworks too big to display in the Main Exhibition Room, are on display in other parts of the Gallery and are identified by a coloured label.

The Exhibition will be supported by a series of Talk Shops where participants in the exhibition will talk about their choice and motivation for selection.
